ONE LIFE Update

ONE LIFE update: on submission with editors/publishers in the New Year! Very exciting.

Determination

"Even the most daring and accomplished people have undergone tremendous difficulty. In fact, the more successful they became, the more they attributed their success to the lessons learned during their most difficult times. Adversity is our teacher. When we view adversity as a guide towards greater inner growth, we will then learn to accept the wisdom our soul came into this life to learn."

ONE LIFE: Early Reader's Take

Written by: Charlee

I was one of the few fortunate people who had the opportunity to read ONE LIFE when it was first written (even before edits :) ). It was such an exciting read from beginning to end. I was frequently blown away by the shocking twists and turns in the adventurous story line. I can't tell you how many times I said "Oh My God" out loud during this read.

The love story really pulled me in as well; it has been over a year since I first read the book I still have a 'crush' on a certain character.

I love it when a book pulls me in and I can imagine myself as the main character. Suddenly the real world disappears and I become lost in the words on the page; it's the best feeling. This feeling is also why I love to read. ONE LIFE did this for me and it will do the same thing for anyone else who reads it.

Food for Thought

There are worse things in the world to be accused of than being an intellect or a dreamer (or both). How different the world would be if everyone decided to forget about thinking big...and dreaming big. Passion and determination are powerful driving forces behind many life-defining and life-saving discoveries. We each have our roles to play, but often it's the people who stray from conventional boundaries who make the impossible...possible.

"Humanity needs practical men, who get the most out of their work, and, without forgetting the general good, safeguard their own interests. But humanity also needs dreamers, for whom the disinterested development of an enterprise is so captivating that it becomes impossible for them to devote their care to their own material profit."

~Marie Curie (French Physicist. Twice a winner of the Nobel prize.)

How to Achieve Your Writing Goal

I posted this image on my Facebook this afternoon. If you would like feel free to add LA Cadieux as a friend on Facebook.

The cartoon character in this illustration is me this weekend...except with a thicker chain...and a female character with an iPhone...and a laptop instead of a desktop. Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy (American) Thanksgiving! Wishing all south of the border a fantastic day.

This quote really sums up the holidays for me. ;-)

"May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!"

~Author Unknown

And on a more serious note...
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."

~Melody Beattie

Go There

"That's what writing is all about, after all, making others see what you have put down on the page and believing that it does, or could, exist and you want to go there."

Remembrance/Veterans Day

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

~John McCrae, May 1915

No Matter What

“NEVER GIVE UP
No matter what is going on
Never give up
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country
Is spent developing the mind
Instead of the heart
Be compassionate
Not just to your friends
But to everyone
Be compassionate
Work for peace
In your heart and in the world
Work for peace
And I say again
Never give up
No matter what is going on around you
Never give up”
― Dalai Lama XIV

ONE LIFE: A Teddy Owens Story

Sixteen year-old Teddy Owens has barely considered her own mortality but within her lays dormant the ability to save one person from death...a particularly difficult decision to make when so many people she loves are in desperate peril.More information is coming soon.

Intent on leaving her troubled childhood in the past, Teddy Owens, has moved from Texas to her uncle's secluded mountain estate. Curious about her new surroundings Teddy ignores the persistent advice of her friend, Kane Piers, and digs to uncover the hidden mysteries of the estate, only to discover Kane has secrets of his own. With each new revelation Teddy is thrust further into a world where she is hunted for her supernatural power...to save a person from death.

ONE LIFE is a story about how a young woman with an extraordinary ability inherits generations of enemies and lies. After her family's sordid history of betrayal is unearthed, her world is rocked when she must travel to New York City and take an oath promising her power of One Life to the arrogant heir of a twisted underworld, Leevi Koivu. New Novel

I've started work on my third 'Yet To Be Named' novel and I'm really excited to write this story. It is my take on a romantic mixed martial arts story with two teenage protagonists and their hilarious entourage. This concept was inspired by a fellow Canadian friend who has gone onto a fair amount of success as a martial arts heavyweight fighter...and Ms. Gina Carano a beautiful and brave young woman with her own talent in the Octagon.

More information to come in the near future.

Not A Rainbow We Can't Chase

I was watching Pure Country 2 last night and after the movie was done this song was playing on repeat in my head. Nothing fancy about these lyrics but they clearly speak right from Ms. Elam's heart to mine. I think any aspiring writer, actor, or singer can relate to the incredible---often frustrating---levels of faith and perseverance required to find any level of success in these professions. It's important to set dreams big and remember there is not a rainbow we can't chase, or challenge we can't face. ;-)

DREAM BIG

There comes a time in every bodies life when your destiny is born
There's no doubt what your all about is there without a warning
When it comes you gotta take it and believe your gonna make it through
There's not a challenge you can't face
There's not a rainbow you can't chase

Dream Big Reach high
Don't ever be afraid to spread your wings and fly
With a heart full of faith a whole lotta luck and some love to see you through
Dream big and it just might come true
Always know what the future holds is in the hands of fate
And don't forget that when times get tough the gift is worth the wait
And when it finally comes together your star will shine forever more
And it could give hope to all the rest
Show them how to be the best

Dream big Reach high
Don't ever be afraid to spread your wings and fly
With a heart full of faith a whole lotta luck and some love to see you through
Dream big and it just might come true.

Lyrics by Katrina Elam.

Set Goals

Set your goals high and aim for your wildest dreams. ~ Mantra around our house. It has worked wonders for my husband and I, but I think the most important message is to set goals (any goals!) and work hard to achieve your dreams...because no good success comes without hard work.

Typing

Deep breath. Document open. Fingers on keyboard. Typing. Deleting. Words flowing through my mind. More typing. More deleting. Break to write blog. Smiling. Yep, I'm working on my writing during my son's nap...so much for maternity break. *Guilty grin* I think those dirty dishes will have to wait.

Maternity Break

Hey Bloggers. I haven't totally disappeared---just on a temporary maternity break. Will be back to blogging soon.

"All dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was in vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible." T. E. Lawrence
